Efficiency Unleashed: Fast Journey to Component Reutilization

Discover how Purem by Eberspächer transformed its component development process with Synera Run, enabling rapid, automated component comparisons to leverage existing parts, significantly reducing development time and decrease costs.

1200% ROI within the first 12 months

Reusing at least 10 parts per year

80% reduced effort for reused directed parts

Challenge

The challenge faced by Purem by Eberspächer was multifaceted, reflecting the complexities inherent in modern component development. Traditionally, the release-process for simple standard and directed parts such as adapter components was not only time-consuming but also fraught with inefficiencies. An approval and purchase process were carried out for each new component, disregarding the potential to leverage existing components. This practice not only escalated development costs but also extended time-to-market for new products.

The root of this inefficiency lay in the manual testing process used to check the viability of reusing existing components. This process was so labour-intensive that it was frequently overlooked, resulting in the unnecessary proliferation of unique parts. The consequence was a significant, yet avoidable, financial, and operational burden. Moreover, the lack of an automated system to facilitate the comparison and identification of reusable parts meant that opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements were consistently missed.

With Synera we are now able to carry out a component comparison, which we were not able to do in the past due to the effort involved. Reusing existing components not only reduces development effort but also leads to sustainable cost savings.

Purem by Eberspächer is a subsidiary of the Esslingen-based Eberspächer Group. Around 7,000 employees develop and produce exhaust gas purification and acoustic systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and off-road vehicles for clean and quiet mobility. The technologies contribute significantly to the fulfilment of the strictest emission standards and noise guidelines. The customer base includes the world's leading vehicle manufacturers. In 2020, the division generated sales of around 4.4 billion euros within the Group.

Solution

In response to these challenges, Synera introduced a smart solution through its product, Synera Run. This tool enhanced Purem by Eberspächer component development process by automating the comparison of required components against an extensive catalogue of existing parts. Through Synera Run, product recognition data were continuously and automatically catalogued into an database, enabling developers to upload their part geometry and receive immediate, real-time comparisons.

This automation was a game-changer. It eliminated the need for the laborious manual testing process previously used to identify viable existing components. By providing CAD designers with

immediate access to comparative data, decisions that once took hours of manual research could now be made in real-time. This not only streamlined the development process but also significantly reduced the time and costs associated with developing new parts.

Moreover, the ease of integration and user-friendly interface of Synera Run accelerated its adoption among development engineers. The tool’s ability to offer quick and reliable comparisons made it an indispensable part of the development process, transforming how Purem by Eberspächer approached component development. By significantly reducing administrative processes and hardware costs, Synera Run not only addressed the immediate challenges faced by Purem by Eberspächer but also positioned the company for future innovation and growth.
